Baguazhang was originally taught orally. Ma Gui had some learning, so could most likely write, but did not leave any written materials. Yin Yuzhang, Yin Fu's son, wrote the verses that are the most directly connected to the oral teachings of Dong Haichuan. Liu Wanchuan had the verses in his head and could recite them, but the ones he wrote down had many errors, as he was not very literate. There is a more accurate copy of the poems that one of his students wrote.
